Christy: Book Review

I just finished a book that has such a wonderful Anne of Green Gables quality about it that I wanted to share it. Most of you would recognize it by the miniseries they made inspired by the book years ago starring Kellie Martin:

Christy is based on the true story of Catherine Marshall's grandmother {as I've since learned from my Mother}. It is beautiful and inspiring. A touching love story as well and history of mountain life in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. If you're looking for a great book and/or a well cast movie version, I highly recommend Christy.

I Loved it!

Book of the Month

I know! Can you believe it is a new month already?! I think the older I get and definately the busier I am, the faster time flies. I'm really excited about February's  book. It is by our beloved former apostle Neal A. Maxwell, "But for a small moment".

What a truly heroic life he lived on this earth as a true disiple of Jesus Christ. Definately worthy of writing such an inspiring book. As the weather continues to grow colder and we want to be inside more, it's nice to have a good book to curl up with and read. Try filling up on a bowl of delicious soup as well. You'll find an irresistable recipe here.

ENJOY!

January's book

I'm excited about this month's book because I haven't read it. I don't really remember the selling points of it at the annual book sell, but I know it was convincing enough we all voted for it. That was also the second time it was presented to our book group. There are two things I know about it. Okay, three:

1) It' setting is in South Africa
2) It's about two men
3) There is a movie made from the book (gotta be good if they wanted to make a movie off it, right?)

Are you gonna read it too? Let me know what you think of it!

Book of the Month

Yep! It's a new month, so you know what THAT means...I am announcing the read of December for our book group. I'm really excited about this one since I have wanted to read it. For some reason (okay, maybe 8 reasons) I have to have an encouraging reason to read anything unless I'm nursing a baby and have to sit down regularly.  That is part of the reason I'm in a book group in the first place. Although, even being a member the leader of book group means that I listen to them more than I actually read them. This one was "sold" to our group by Nan Petersen. The author is Lois Lowry for:

                                                The Giver

Hope I enjoy it, and I hope you do too.

Happy Reading!

November Read

At the beginning of each month, I will be posting what we are reading in our book group for the month's read. This might help to find good books that are highly recommended for any of you that are looking for a great read. I'm always looking for something wonderful. I love a good cold day where I can cozy up and enjoy a worthwhile book. I'm excited to share this month, because it is actually the book I "sold" at our annual "book sell" where each group member presents two or three books to the the rest of us and everyone votes for the ones they would like to read for the upcoming year. We do this annual sell and potluck traditionally at my house in May. We just enjoyed our 4th annual sell this last spring...

Now to announce this months "read".

Drumroll Please......

*cymbols*

and the book of the month is:

Joseph and Emma: A Love Story
Volume 1
Product Details

This book was in my Mother's library, where I "stole" it and it's second volume companion upon visiting her 6 years ago. I gave them back later when she was visiting me (reluctantly) and have wanted to purchase them for my own library ever since. This month has given me an excuse to do that since we only have my copies to share through the whole group. Mom even sent hers to me so that we could have two in circulation. I'm loaning them with the understanding that I get it back in time for a "review read" so that I can lead the discussion on the 16th of this month. Only giving our whole group 3 weeks instead of the usual four to read and pass it around since the week of Thanksgiving is always so questionable for members coming and going out of town.

I fell in love with this book when I first read it and couldn't read volume two fast enough. It is all about the life of the Prophet Joseph Smith and His wife Emma and the organization of the church and history. It is written by Marsha Newman and Buddy Youngreen, the co-author being one of Emma's posterity. I believe this book to be of interest to non-member and members of the LDS faith alike and hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did. I'm looking forward to reading it again!

 Word of warning:
*Reading with a box of Kleenex highly recommended!

October Read

Are you looking for a deliciously October book to read? I thought so! That's why I'm going to recommend you a book that is a MUST read. If you do or even if you don't read it,  you have to then go rent the movie for a wonderful Halloween week film. I'm telling you! For the month of October, you have GOT to read or watch Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier. Hope I at least have your curiousity peaked!

(Sorry, I tried to get a clearer image.) *sigh*

I'm not gonna tell you all about it myself, but I will say this. I'm reading the book (a choice from book group's book sell this year) AND I have the movie on hold at the Library. (Get ready honey, that is our date night for Friday the 29th.) Oh, I cannot wait!! After you read it and/or see it, let me know what you think. Go ahead and scadoo on over to your library or bookstore. Woo Hoo!

Oh, how I LOVE a good read!

Caution: Read with a bag of your favorite chocolates in a comfy location!
